Having been with Arsenal for more than five years, Edu, 46, is intent on pursuing a new career opportunity with a role working with the group of teams controlled by Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis one possibility.
The Greek businessman also owns Olympiacos and Portuguese side Rio Ave.
Forest declined to comment but have previously issued strong denials of any link to Edu.
