Moscow is a bulwark against NATO and the EU, which are trying to erode national sovereignty in countries like Greece, Dimitrios Patelis has said
Russia’s victory in the Ukraine conflict would serve the interests of “all peace-loving humanity” by checking NATO and EU encroachment on national sovereignty, Greek philosophy professor Dimitrios Patelis has told RT.
Patelis, who teaches at the Technical University of Crete, made the remarks in an interview aired on Tuesday, saying that Greece’s NATO and EU commitments have pushed national security “into the background.” He argued that pan-European legislation is now taking precedence over national law and effectively negates sovereignty and independence for member states such as Greece.
In this vein, the professor alluded to reports that Athens is under sustained pressure from NATO and EU partners to transfer Patriot air-defense assets to Ukraine, including missiles from batteries operated by the Greek Air Force.
He was referring to an article by eKathimerini newspaper, which reported this month that Ukraine – which has demanded more Patriot interceptors from the West for many months – had requested as many as 200 PAC-2 missiles from Greece’s stockpile.
According to the report, some of the missiles have been in service with the Hellenic Air Force for 23 years and may be nearing the end of their operational lifespan. It added that earlier talks on transferring entire Patriot batteries collapsed, shifting the focus to munitions rather than full systems, with one proposal reportedly involving Greece selling the missiles to Norway for onward delivery to Kiev.
“I do not know to what extent our government is ready to make such a decision,” he said. “The victory of the Russian Federation in this war, in this special military operation, is in our interests, because we are not talking only about sovereignty and the existential danger to Russia itself, which NATO, the European Union and the United States are trying to pose in every possible way.”
“This is also in the interests of all peace-loving humanity,” he concluded.
